Fluid Loss Control Additives

As cement is pumped across a permeable rock surface under pressure, cement filtrate, or water is lost or squeezed out of the cement into the rock. Cement fluid loss must be controlled to obtain the right rheological properties for placing the cement and to ensure a good cement bond to pipe and formation.

CFL 110

Powdered polysaccharide derivative

Powdered polysaccharide derivative suitable for application in fresh water or with salt up to 18% by weight of water (BWOW). Effective to 220°F (104°C). Acts as a retarder at temperatures below 160°F (71°C). Normal concentration is 0.5-1.5% by weight of cement (BWOC).

CFL 117

Synthetic polymer

Synthetic polymer used to control loss of filtrate from cement in fresh to salt water slurries up to 400°F (204°C). Has non-gellation properties, which make it ideally suited for squeeze cementing and coiled tubing squeeze cementing. Also functions as a gas migration control additive. Normal concentration range is 0.2-3.0% by weight of cement (BWOC). Also available as a liquid; CFL-117L is a 41.7% active, non- aqueous suspension.

CFL 205

Synthetic, water-soluble, latex powder

Synthetic, water-soluble, latex powder effective from 140-450°F (60-232°C) to make cement more elastic (less shattering on perforating). Can be used with fresh water, seawater, calcium chloride water (up to 8%), and saturated saltwater. Normal concentration is 0.5-2.0% by weight of cement (BWOC).

CFL 3000

Synthetic copolymer

Synthetic copolymer developed to control fluid loss over a broad temperature range, 60-450°F (15.5- 232°C) in fresh to saturated saltwater slurries. Effective in lightweight, dispersed slurries. Normal con- centration range is 0.25-1.0% by weight of cement (BWOC). CFL-3000L is a 16% active liquid version.

Latex 10L

Liquid blend that includes a stable, medium molecular weight polymer

Liquid blend that includes a stable, medium molecular weight polymer that provides fluid loss control and reduce free water up to 210°F (99°C). Should not be used in slurries containing greater than 10% NaCl (sodium chloride) by weight of water or with borax or boric acid. Normal concentration range is 0.5-2.5 gal/sack (1.9-9.5 L/sk) of cement.

LCP 101

Dual purpose, latex cement additive

Dual purpose, latex cement additive that prevents fluid in the cement from being forced into the permeable formation, while also preventing gas or water flow from entering the wellbore up to 210°F (99°C). Can be used in slurries with up to 10% NaCl, by weight of water (BWOW). Non-retarding, non-accelerating, and reduces free water. Normal concentration is 0.5-2.0% by weight of cement (BWOC).
